Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an internationally recognised program that allows young people to develop their skills and attributes in a range of areas including Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and an Adventurous Journey. Students at John Monash Science School have the opportunity of enrolling in either the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.

The Award provides participants with the opportunity to develop skills that go beyond academic achievement as they work towards individual goals, helping to create well-rounded learners. JMSS students currently participate in a wide range of activities to gain credit towards the Award. These include sports and individual fitness, performing arts, debating, languages, drama, leadership, sports coaching and an array of community service placements.

Our students have worked in local opportunity shops, volunteered at community sporting clubs, assisted at aged care facilities and taught areas of their interest and passion within our own co-curricular program.  Students have the opportunity of planning and participating in an extended hike along breathtaking routes such as the Great Ocean Road hike.
