Vacant Position - Monash Tech School - 2 positions

The Victorian Government has committed to establish 10 Tech Schools across Victoria to open throughout 2017 and 2018. See more about the Moansh Tech School.

The Monash Tech School is in the early stage of design and development and will become a shared learning centre established by a partnership of local schools, industry representatives, higher education providers and other stakeholders in the local government area.  The project is currently in an intensive planning and development phase, with the local partnership group working through streams of work that include curriculum development, program implementation, infrastructure design, staffing, technology and equipment requirements.

The Monash Tech School partnership includes eight Year 7-12 secondary schools, one Year 10-12 specialist Maths and Science School, two special development schools, Holmesglen TAFE, Gateway LLEN, the City of Monash and Monash University.

Students from participating schools will be able to access the Tech School for specialised education programs.  There will be a strong focus placed on strengthening the collaborative connections between local schools and industry.  The Tech School programs will be designed to inspire and engage students with interactive and hands-on learning in an environment that is equipped with leading edge technology.  The teaching and learning programs will be project based, focusing on discovery, innovation and learning by inquiry.

The Tech School will initially open in a temporary facility located at Federation Training, Chadstone from July 2017.  It will remain operating out of there until a permanent facility at Monash University becomes available - this is envisaged to be early in 2019.

The Tech School will have an educational focus aligned to the themes of Medical and Pharmaceutical Technologies and New Energies which are representative of priority areas in the LGA which are predicted to experience strong economic and employment growth.

The Leading Teacher Monash Tech School will have appropriate qualifications and relevant Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) experience at a senior level in an educational based environment.

Primary Objectives of Position

The successful applicant will lead and manage the implementation of Monash Tech School’s teaching programs commensurate with the strategic plan and the overall vision of the School. 

Once in operation, the Tech School will use leading-edge technology and the development of high-order skills in inquiry, project development and evaluation, critical and creative thinking and team-based learning to deliver the advanced education and training students need to flourish in our rapidly changing global economy.  The role of the Leading Teacher will be to manage all aspects of the program, which will also include leading a curriculum development team comprising external stakeholders from Monash University, local schools and local industry.  Teaching responsibilities and leading the professional development of other education Tech School staff are also key responsibilities in this role.

Specific Accountabilities

  1. Leading and managing the implementation of Monash Tech School programs related to the strategic plan and vision of the School.
  2. Leading a curriculum development team comprising external stakeholders.
  3. Undertaking the appropriate documentation of all curriculum programs in line with the expectations of the Victorian Curriculum.
  4. Teaching student programs.
  5. Leading the development of teacher professional development plans and programs and the training of other Monash Tech School education staff.
  6. Leading and managing the development of assessment, the tracking of student progress and policies and processes to assist teachers from partner schools to prepare student evaluations.
  7. With the Director, managing the implementation of the Tech School’s operational policies as they relate to participant wellbeing and conduct.
  8. Contributing to the strategic and business plan for the Monash Tech School.
  9. Working with the senior staff to design and implement a timetable which facilitates the delivery of all programs to be offered by Monash Tech School.
  10. Contributing to the development of stakeholder engagement strategies.
  11. Work with the Director and Business/Administration Officer to implement and maintain a student registration and attendance system.

This role is pivotal to leading and managing the implementation of a visionary and contemporary policy around the effective use of Information Technologies in all school programs and processes and the procurement and equipment installation of all necessary infrastructure resources necessary to deliver Monash Tech School programs and overall school administration for both the temporary and permanent facilities.

Once in operation, the Tech School will use leading-edge technology and the development of high-order skills in inquiry, project development and evaluation, critical and creative thinking and team based learning to deliver the advanced education and training students need to flourish in our rapidly changing global economy.  On a daily basis, the role of the Technology Manager will be to manage, monitor and troubleshoot where required the IT and equipment infrastructure of the Monash Tech School.

Specific Accountabilities

  1. Leading and managing the implementation of a visionary and contemporary policy around the effective use of Information Technologies in all school programs and processes, and the procurement and installation of all necessary infrastructure resources to deliver Monash Tech School programs and overall school administration for both the temporary and permanent facilities.
  2. Managing, monitoring and troubleshooting where required the IT and equipment infrastructure of the Monash Tech School on a daily basis.
  3. Investigating and assessing the suitability of equipment and associated infrastructure to deliver programs developed by the curriculum team for both the temporary and permanent facilities.
  4. Identifying potential technologies and equipment for future programs or use by the Monash Tech School.
  5. Contributing to the development of programs from an IT, technology and resource perspective.
  6. With the Director, managing the implementation of school operational policies and procedures as they relate to Occupational Health and Safety, equipment usage and materials storage.
  7. Contributing to the strategic and business plan for the Monash Tech School.
